Tips

How to send us a story, and what we can and cannot promise about handling it.

If you know something we should be reporting, we would like to hear from you. Tips from readers are often where the best stories start. You do not need a finished story. A pointer, a date, a name or a link is enough for us to start looking. Tell us what you know and how you know it, and we will do the work of checking.

What happens to your tip

We read every tip. We cannot act on all of them, and we will not usually be able to tell you whether one led to a story, but nothing is discarded without being read.

We do not publish anything on the strength of a single tip. Anything we run is checked independently first.

What we cannot promise yet

This is not a secure or confidential channel. The form below is an ordinary web form. It is not encrypted end to end, we cannot verify who you are, and we have not yet published a policy on how source material is stored or how long we keep it.

What you send passes through our forms provider, Formspark, and is stored there until the newsroom deletes it. It is protected against automated spam by a check from Cloudflare, which means the form needs JavaScript to work. If yours is turned off, you will be told that your tip did not send.

We will publish a proper route for confidential tips as we expand over the coming months. Do not send us sensitive material until then.

This is not a confidential channel. Your message travels through an ordinary web form and is stored by our forms provider. Please do not send anything that could put you or someone else at risk.
