Corrections

We will sometimes get things wrong. When we do, we would rather hear about it and fix it than leave it standing.

If you think something we have published is inaccurate, tell us. It helps to include the address of the page, the specific passage you are querying, and what you believe the correct position to be. Anything that lets us check your account — a document, a link, a date — makes it much faster to resolve.

What we do about it

We check the claim against our own reporting and sources. If we got it wrong, we correct the piece and say plainly what changed and when.

Where a correction is minor, such as a misspelled name or a wrong date, we fix it and note the change. Where it is substantial enough to alter the meaning of a piece, we say so clearly at the top.

Disagreeing with our analysis is not the same as identifying an error, and we will not treat it as one. But if we have misstated a fact, we want to know.
